Part-time Music & Worship Position

Epiphany Lutheran Church in Suwanee, GA is hiring a part time staff position to work with and lead our worship services and music ministry. 

We have two services on Sunday morning (9 am and 10:30 am over the summer and 8:30 am and 11 am during the school year). 

Responsibilities include:

-Planning the services in consultation with staff with input from music team members. 

-Leading the music during these services along with developing a music ministry with the members of Epiphany and members of our community. 

Experience and Background

-Experience leading music at a worship service.

-Music Degree or comparable experience in the field.

Desired Abilities:

-Musical proficiency to lead worship in a variety of styles. 

-The ability to develop a ministry from within the church. We are looking for someone who can engage and involve many people from within the church (young and old) in our worship services. This may involve individuals who already have some musical ability or helping those who are interested in developing their musical abilities.  

-Leadership but also the ability to empower leadership in others. 

-The ability to work with all ages. Epiphany has had a children’s music ministry in the past and we are hoping this candidate can help us restart this ministry. 

-Empowering others to lead/participate in music during worship

Weekly Schedule 

-As this is a part time position, hours can be flexible aside from weekly worship and occasional special services (ex: during the seasons of Advent, Lent, Holy Week). We currently have two Sunday morning worship services (the services are identical) at 9 am and 10:30 am during the summer and 8:30 am and 11 am during the school year. 

-Worship planning and staff meetings

-Rehearsals - Epiphany’s rehearsal schedules have fluctuated over the years. We have met on Thursday as well as Wednesday. Currently the rehearsal schedule is floating based on staff and volunteer availability. The new hire would be able to set this schedule based on their availability as well as the availability of the volunteer musicians. 

We do have a handful of musicians who are eager to work with the new hire and help develop this ministry. We have members who teach music at the college and elementary level, sing professionally, are music therapists, etc. Members included guitar players, drummers, string players, and vocalists, among others. We have a bell choir and a handful of children who hope to see a music ministry for that age group restarted (as mentioned above.) 

Staff Support - This position will be supported by the rest of the staff. This includes an administrator, communications director, and worship technician (he is currently running our cameras, but he has also directed the choir and sang in the choir.) 

Helpful Skills

-A self-starter who works well with others. 

-Strong communication skills. 

-The ability to work independently. 

-Well versed in technology (email, social media, etc.)

-Well organized

Epiphany is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Lutheran membership is not required for this position, but it will be helpful if the applicant has similar views and beliefs that are core to Epiphany. 

This position will report to the senior pastor along with the church council and personnel team.
